Opinion Statement: If you’ve been following the posts on the $115million property tax Levy that was forced on us by the Loudon County Commission, and were present last June when this County Commission refused to require a formal Needs Assessment for the new school (proposed by Commissioner Quillen from Lenoir City), then you would be shocked to know the following.
The New High School proposal that was pushed on us by Superintendent MIKE GARREN, and supported by the Loudon School Board of Education (BOE) was voted on by the BOE chaired by BOBBY JOHNSON who doesn’t live in the Loudon County School District (302 Finley Drive, Lenoir City). This is a violation of the Tennessee School Boards Association requirement that a candidate must be “A resident of the school district”, and he failed to obtain the necessary 25 signatures on his petition as a School Board Candidate from residents of the Loudon County School District. This makes him an illegitimate school board member. Additionally, since his tax record address is not in the Loudon County School District, he pays no taxes for the new school he is pushing on us, and he refuses to support a Needs Assessment to justify this huge 16% property tax increase that we are forced to pay.
I see this as a total conflict of interest, and will be addressing this at tomorrow’s ELECTION COMMISSION MEETING. Per the meeting agenda link below, we all have 5-min to address the commission. Please come and support!
Who is eligible to run for election, and what are the requirements?
The following list contains the threshold requirements a person must meet in order to be eligible to run for an elected position in Tennessee:
• A citizen of Tennessee;
• At least 18 years old;
• A resident of the school district;
• A high school graduate or G.E.D;
• A registered voter in the county
• Not fall within TCA 8-18-101(1)-(5), which are those unable to run for public office.
